Understanding Periodontal Disease

We are Periodontal Specialists

Periodontists are professional dentists with three years of additional continued education and training. We specialize in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease. Additionally, our practice facilitates the proper placement of dental implants and advanced treating of oral inflammation.

Often, we specialize in treating more problematic periodontal cases, such as those with severe gum disease or a complex medical history. We offer a large range of treatments, like scaling and root planing (cleaning the infected surface of the root) and root surface debridement (removing damaged tissue). We also treat patients with severe gum problems, by way of specialized procedures and techniques. Our doctors at Eastside are also specially trained in the placement, maintenance, and repair of dental implants.

When it comes to complete oral care, we’ve got you covered.

What to expect at your visit

During your first visit, we’ll review your complete medical and dental histories.

It is important for us to know of any medications prescribed, or if you are being treated for any condition which could affect periodontal care – like heart disease, diabetes, or pregnancy.

We’ll then examine your gums, looking for any gum line recession, assess how your teeth fit together when biting and inspects for loose teeth. We also inspect, measure and probe between the teeth and gums to determine the depth of those spaces – known as periodontal pockets – to assess the health of the gums. X-rays may also be taken to observe the health of the bone below the gum line.
